Internet usage of individuals was 61.2% Computer and Internet usage of individuals aged 16-74 were 54.9 per cent and 61.2 per cent respectively. Proportion of male that use computer and Internet were 64.1% and 70.5%, while these proportions were 45.9% and 51.9% for female, respectively. Computer and Internet usage of individuals were 54.8 per cent and 55.9 per cent in 2015. 8 out of 10 households have Internet access in Turkey According to the results of Information & Communication Technology Usage Survey in Households and by Individuals carried out in April, 2016, 76.3 per cent of households have access to the Internet. The main reason for households not having access to the Internet at home is “have no need” with 59 per cent. The other important reason was individuals use internet elsewhere such as work, school, internet café with 29.4 per cent. 73.1% of households had broadband Internet connection. According to this, 39.5 per cent of households used fixed broadband connection (ADSL, cable, optic fibre, etc.), while 65.2 percent of households used mobile broadband connection to access the Internet. Proportion of households with mobile phone was 96.9% 96.9% of households have mobile phone (incl. smart phones) in April, 2016 and 25.6% of households have fixed line telephone. 22.9 per cent of households have desktop computer, 36.4% of households have portable computer and 29.6% of households have tablet computer at the same reference period. In 2015, 20.9% of households have smart TV while this proportion was calculated 24.6% for 2016. Social networks took first place among the activities for Internet user in Turkey In the first quarter of 2016, 82.4% of individuals used internet for participating in social networks (creating user profile, posting message or other contributions). This proportion was followed by watching video content from sharing services (74.5%), reading online news, newspapers, news magazines (69.5%), seeking health-related information (65.9%), finding information about goods and services (65.5%) and listening to music (e.g. web radio, music streaming) (63.7%). 61.8% of internet users used e-government services During the twelve months (April 2015-March 2016), 61.8% of Internet users interacted with public authorities over the Internet for private purposes. This proportion was 53.2 per cent for the period of April 2014-March 2015. Obtaining information from public authorities’ web sites was in the first rank with 54.8 per cent. E-shopping rate increased in Turkey The percentage of ordering or buying goods or services over the Internet for private purposes was 34.1% and this proportion increased 1 per cent compared to 2015. 60% of Internet customers bought clothes and sports goods, 29.7% of that bought travel arrangements (transport tickets, rent a car etc.), 25.8% of that bought household goods (e.g. furniture, toys, etc; excluding consumer electronics), 21% of that bought electronic equipment (mobile phones, cameras, radio, TV, DVD player, etc.) and 19.8% of that bought food or groceries in the last twelve months (April 2015-March 2016). 24.9 of individuals who bought goods or services over the Internet in the last twelve months (April 2015-March 2016) encountered problems. The most common problems were “speed of delivery longer than indicated” with 44.9% and “wrong or damaged goods/services delivered” with 42.1%. Proportion of regular Internet users increased 94.9% of individuals who used the Internet in the first quarter of 2016, used the Internet almost every day or at least once a week (regularly Internet use).
