Exports decreased by 3% while imports increased by 0.5% According to the provisional data, produced with the cooperation of the Turkish Statistical Institute and the Ministry of Customs and Trade, in October 2016; exports were 12 billion 841 million dollars with a 3% decrease and imports were 17 billion 4 million dollars with a 0.5% increase compared with October 2015. Foreign trade deficit increased by 13.2% In October 2016 foreign trade deficit was 4 billion 164 million dollars with a 13.2% increase compared with October 2015. In October 2016, exports coverage imports was 75.5% while it was 78.3% in October 2015. Seasonally and calendar adjusted exports increased by 2.5% Seasonally and calendar adjusted exports increased by 2.5% while imports decreased by 1.7% compared with previous month. Calendar adjusted exports decreased by 0.3% while imports increased by 1.1% compared with October 2015.

Exports to the European Union (EU-28) decreased by 0.8% As compared with the same month of the previous year, exports to the EU-28 decreased by 0.8% from 6 billion 262 million dollars to 6 billion 211 million dollars. The proportion of the EU countries was 48.4% in October 2016 while it was 47.3% in October 2015. The main partner for exports was Germany In October 2016, the main partner country for exports was Germany with 1 billion 308 million dollars. The country was followed by the United Kingdom (1 billion 49 million dollars), Iraq (774 million dollars) and Italy (739 million dollars). The top country for imports was China In October 2016, the top country for Turkey’s imports was China (2 billion 214 million dollars). The country was followed by Germany (1 billion 757 million dollars), Russia (1 billion 204 million dollars) and Italy (850 million dollars).


Ratio of exports of high-tech products in manufacturing industries was 3.7% Foreign trade by technology intensity covers the manufacturing industries’ products in classification of ISIC Rev.3. According to the ISIC Rev.3, the ratio of manufacturing industries products in total exports was 92.9% in October. The ratio of high-technology products in manufacturing industries was 3.7%. The ratio of medium-high-technology products in manufacturing industries’ products was 33.1%. Ratio of imports of high-tech products in manufacturing industries was 16.1% The ratio of manufacturing industries’ products in total imports was 85.4%. The ratio of high-technology products in manufacturing industries’ products was 16.1% in October 2016. The ratio of medium-high-technology products in manufacturing industries’ products was 43.6%.
